How does a BIBO instant hot water dispenser compare to a kettle?

Perhaps the biggest disadvantage of kettles over BIBO is that you have to keep filling your kettle. BIBO is mains-fed which means no need to fill up ever again!

“Rapid boil” kettles usually aren’t as quick as they sound. While a BIBO will deliver hot drinks in seconds, even the fastest kettles take around a minute before your next coffee is ready.

Some kettles have a function to keep water hot. Unfortunately, this usually means the kettle re-boils every so often, wasting electricity in the process (unlike the BIBO’s energy-saving sleep mode).

Water-filtering kettles are available (for an added cost). You’ll need to change the filter fairly regularly, depending on how often you use the kettle but often once a month. The filter costs can stack up quickly if you love your cups of tea!

“Instant” kettles are actually a different product, sometimes called a “water boiler” or “hot water dispenser”. These are much more expensive, and, unlike the BIBO, won’t also provide cool water.

It’s cheaper than a BIBO initially but actually costs more to run than a BIBO! Just remember that for the lower initial price you won’t get instant cooled water, you may not get filtered water, and you’ll have to keep filling that noisy old kettle!
